Katie Fields is a 19-year-old Food and Resource Economics major with a 3.6 GPA. She is transferring to the University of Florida this summer after attending Santa Fe College.

Question: How long have you been working for Student Maid?

Answer: Since December.

Q: How did you find out about Student Maid?

A: Newspaper article as well as my two friends Maggie and Lauren.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: The flexible hours and the support it provides to students.

Q: What are your usual jobs with Student Maid?

A: House cleaning and organizing.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: Because Student Maid only hires students it provides a very good networking opportunity among co-workers.

Katie also enjoys traveling abroad when she has the opportunity!

Question: How long have you been working for Student Maid?

Answer: About 6 months.

Q: How did you find out about Student Maid?

A: Through an article from Santa Fe.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: The flexibility.

Q: What are your usual jobs with Student Maid?

A: Commercial cleaning, residential cleaning, party set up/break down.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: I like the people and the flexibility.

Michael Rubin is a 21-year-old University of Florida student majoring in building construction with a 3.6 GPA.

Question: How long have you been working for Student Maid?

Answer: Since October.

Q: How did you find out about Student Maid?

A: On the website.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: It was a flexible job that that I would enjoy plus I get to work with other students.

Q: What are your usual jobs with Student Maid?

A: Dog walking, cleaning offices and homes and move out cleanings as well.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: The team members are great and everyone looks out for each other.

Q: Any other interests/activities?

A: The monthly meetings are fun because there is usually food and we get to see everyone we don’t work with all the time and swap stories and catch up.

Question: How did you find out about Student Maid?

Answer: Kristin first found out about Student Maid when she saw it on the website for Santa Fe as a job ad.

Q: How long have you worked for Student Maid?

A: Kristin has worked for Student Maid since September.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: Kristin found Student Maid appealing due to its flexible hours and the fact that it is a “different” job.

Q: What are your usual jobs at Student Maid?

A: Kristin works in residential and commercial cleaning, but has also done parties, dog walking and house sitting.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: Kristin says she likes that the Student Maid staff is “like one big family” and works together. She also enjoys that the job works with school.

Q: What other interests do you have?

A: Kristin has recently been CPR certified!

Chelsea Mercer, 20, not only is a Student Maid employee, she is a hair sylist at Beach Break Salon in Gainesville.

Interview with Chelsea Mercer

Question: How did you find out about Student Maid?

Answer: Chelsea discovered Student Maid from founder Kristen Hadeed, who has her hair done by Chelsea at Beach Break Salon.

Q: How long have you worked for Student Maid?

A: Chelsea has worked for Student Maid since October.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: Chelsea says she was inspired by Kristen and her many goals, and Kristen was willing to offer her a second job.

Q: What are your usual jobs at Student Maid?

A: Chelsea usually does residential cleanings.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: Chelsea states that Student Maid is “really classy”; she likes that the employees are all professional and take pride in what they do.

Q: What other interests do you have?

A: Chelsea worked as a teacher’s aid for three years; she enjoys babysitting and pets.

Franjessica Finnikin, 21, is a fourth year University of Florida student majoring in anthropology with a 2.24 grade point average.

Interview with Franjessica Finnikin

Question: How did you find out about Student Maid?

Answer: Franjessica heard about Student Maid through an apartment cleaning advertisement, but says it has been so long she cannot specifically remember!

Q: How long have you worked for Student Maid?

A: Franjessica has worked for Student Maid for six months.

Q: What made you want to work for Student Maid?

A: Franjessica says that she first began working for Student Maid to make money.

Q: What are your usual jobs at Student Maid?

A: Franjessica normally does cleanings, and has done dog walking as well.

Q: Why do you enjoy working at Student Maid?

A: Franjessica says that the people are the real reason she enjoys working for Student Maid.

Q: What other interests do you have?

A: Franjessica enjoys volunteering with troubled youth.

Student Spotlight

Rachel Elsegood, a junior at the University of Florida, is Student Maid’s Human Resources intern. Elsegood, who is studying business, is also an exchange student! She is part of an exchange program from her home institution in Manchester, England. Although the systems are somewhat different, Rachel classifies her studies as international management or American business.

Interview with Rachel Elsegood

Question: Where are you from?

Answer: I’m from a small town called Glossop, in Northern England, which is in the countryside with lots of history.

Q: What made you want to study abroad?

A: I decided in sixth form (school at age 16-18) that I wanted to try somethign different at university than straight business, and when I found a business course with a year to America (a country i had never visited), I decided to go for it.

Q: Are you enjoying your experience here?

A: So far I am enjoying it thoroughly, although it is very different to home! The weather is much better here, I really love the sunshine!

Q: What are some of the differences you are finding here?

A: University has so many more exams than at home, but I like that each one feels a little less daunting as they are only worth 20% instead of a 100%.

Q: What is your job at Student Maid?

A: At Student Maid I am the HR intern, I work with payroll and new employees, as well as any other jobs (and there are many) that will help us stay on top of the work load.

Q: Why do you enjoy being a Student Maid employee?

A: So far I have found the experience very educational and I enjoy working with Kristen and for the company.

Employee of the Month- Kaylee Davis

Kaylee Davis is Student Maid’s October Employee of the Month!

Kaylee, 19, is from Okeechobee, Florida, and is currently attending Santa Fe College. She is majoring in occupational therapy with a concentration in Neonates. She would like to continue her studies at the University of Florida and graduate with a doctorate in occupational therapy.

Kaylee began working at Student Maid in September of 2010. She states, “I feel like I am making someone’s day better when I work at Student Maid, or that I’m being a genuine help. I have always wanted my life to be that of helping and serving people; I get tired of being subjected to a selfish world, and being there for someone is my life’s purpose!”

Question: Why do you enjoy being a Student Maid employee?

Answer: I feel like I am making someon’s day better, or like I’m being a genuine help. I also love the volunteering opportunities. I have always wanted my life to be that of helping and serving people- and newborn babies, hence my major- in need. I get tired of being subjected to a selfish world, and being there for someone is my life’s purpose!

Q: What has been your most memorable moment working at Student Maid?

A: Student Maid helped volunteer at a 5K walk for Lauren in Haile Plantation recently, and it also featured a silent auction, a live band, face painting, pony rides, and more. That was one of my most memborable moments so far! I just felt like getting to know Paul (Student Maid’s general manager) and Kristen (Student Maid’s founder) outside of a work environment make the company seem more like a fun club. I feel like I really got to know more of my co-workers as well. This company is based on team work, and I feel like forming relationships and trust can make our job so much more fulfilling.

Q: What is your favorite hobby (outside of working for Student Maid, of course!)?

A: I love music. I have been singing since I was a baby, literally, and I started singing as a member in my church praise band when I was 12. I have been in every talent show since I was in kindergarten, and I sang in every play and musical my school put on. I also love to write music and play my guitar.
